Our skin shows what we eat!

The effect that certain foods have on our skin is apparent and experienced by everyone. I have resided myself to the fact that when I treat myself to a yummy MacDonald’s and a whole large bar of chocolate I am guaranteed to see some blemishes appear on my face within the next couple of days. The best thing you can do to help cleanse your body after these little treats, is with a detox. Cleansing your liver, will cleanse your skin!

You need to try and cut down on the amount of refined sugar and processed carbohydrates, things like sweets, cakes, cereals and condiments etc. contain high levels of sugar, when craving something sweet choose a healthier alternative such as fruit.

If you don’t think you consume high levels of sugar and still appear to have breakouts, this could be from other foods such as refined carbohydrates, bread, pasta etc or could be due to a hormonal imbalance.

I am no expert but, during my month study I cut right back on both refined sugar and processed carbohydrates and the results spoke for themselves, everyone is different though so you need to see what works for you.

Inside Out

Let’s have a look at some of the best fruit & vegetables you can consume and how they work to treat your skin from the inside out.

Pineapple (Bromelain) – when used topically on the skin it is a great exfoliant. It fights against free radicals and prevents cell damage. Rich in Vitamin C and Amino Acids which help fight acne.

Oranges – Packed full of Vitamin C which everyone should include within their diet. They rejuvenate the skin promoting collagen and elastin production, essential proteins needed to generate new skin and help heal acne scars.

Limes – An antioxidant which also contains concentrated Vitamin C. They also have Antibacterial and Antifungal properties which fight against acne causing bacteria.

Kale – One of the healthiest vegetables around and has been shown to actively help the body’s detoxification process. Consumed regularly it provides great anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits as well as a dose of Vitamins A, C K and B6.

Broccoli – Containing the super antioxidant glutathione, which cleanses and protects the liver from damage as it processes pollutants and toxins.

Spirulina - An impressive blue green algae (don’t let that put you off, you can hardly taste it in a juice or smoothie). High in protein and amino acids, it fights candida overgrowth that can cause acne. An active ingredient found within our Active Pureness Peel Off Mask, it has amazing anti-inflammatory properties when applied topically.

Wheatgrass & Barley Grass – Both can be found in powder form and added to your juices/smoothies. They are high in chlorophyll a strong antioxidant found in plants, well known detoxifiers, they cleanse and purify the blood.

Taste the difference

There are so many amazing natural ingredients out there which you can add to your diet to help fight breakouts and the internet is packed full of helpful information. I have included below a yummy juice recipe which I loved, give it a try and let me know what you think.

Corrector (Active Pureness) - Smoothie

2 Raw Beetroot, Juiced

1 Large Handful of Raspberries

1 Large Handful Blackberries

4 Tables Spoons of Goji Berries – soaked

1 Heaped teaspoon of Manuka Honey

½ - 1 Teaspoon Chlorella Powder

Most juices which are recommended for spot prone skin are full of green ingredients so, I thought I would choose something slightly different which tastes much better!

This smoothie is packed with great cleansing properties which help our body fight skin congestion, it’s also a nice little natural sugar hit if your sweet tooth is calling!

Blackberries and Raspberries are both fab sources of Zinc which help clear acne by repairing the tissue, reducing sebum production and soothing skin irritation.

Manuka Honey has impressive antibacterial and antifungal properties whilst Chlorella, a nutrient-rich green algae, helps to detoxify, cleanse and protect the body.

Outside In

Along with a healthy balanced diet, you do need to ensure that the products you are using on your skin are right for you. We have a great range for spot prone skin from [Comfort Zone] called Active Pureness, a range which contains some of the active ingredients mentioned above. Why not kick start your journey with a Deep Purification or Double Peel Facial, both treatments are luxurious and have shown great results on acne prone skin.

Happy drinking!
